Start by dig one or more furrow (s) in line a few inches deep, no more.
Space each furrow about twenty centimeters apart.
- Place each clove a few centimeters deep, the tip (germ) up.
- Space the cloves about 10 centimeters apart to give them room to develop.
- Then cover with light soil and water regularly.
- Garlic needs a lot of sunlight.
Warning ! Garlic does not like too wet soils, if so, mix your soil with sand

Garlic cultivation
Garlic is undemanding and hardly needs any care during the entire cultivation. But a few things will help you have a better harvest.
When the young plants emerge from the ground, clean around regularly to remove the weeds and allow the water to drain out, breaking up the hard soil.
- Water in summer when the weather is hot or in case of drought
- Garlic hates excess water so never drown the bulbs
- Hoe and pull the weeds as you go
- Watch out for the onion fly
Garlic harvest
Emergence occurs approximately 1 month after planting.
Before harvesting the garlic, remember to tie the stems that are starting to turn yellow to stop their development and promote the concentration of the sap in the head of the garlic.
Harvesting is done in summer, usually in June July
- Before storing the garlic, dry it for a few days in the sun.
- Then clean it and store it in a dry, ventilated and rather cool place.
When the bulbs reach a respectable size and look well formed (June / July depending on the variety grown), it's time to harvest your garlic!
Note also that it is possible to harvest green garlic from spring (generally in May) and thus consume both the bulbs and the leaves.
